Back in August at the Dartmouth Royal Regatta, I got involved with a crafting morning for kids - as a part of the BeWild campaign - to create a wider wildlife conversation. Obviously this topic is right up my street, so a chance to be a part of encouraging kids to forage, to get outdoors and be creative whilst also spreading the love of our tiny prickled friends, was a big yes from me.
So, combining my love of all of the above, this activity sheet was born and it was truly the best morning. I foraged in the woods and at the beach for all the bits and pieces, and used offcuts from the local florist to give to the children to fill the empty hedgehog and create the ‘spikes’. Watching the children get involved, choosing what bits of nature to fill it with and then seeing their finished pieces was a total joy. Each hedgehog was so different - here a few images below.
They went down so well that I decided to get a handful of them for the shop (in store only). Come and grab yours - as you’ll also be helping out the wonderful Prickles in a Pickle too as a portion of these sales will go to the hedgehog hospital in Stoke Fleming.
See you again next year!
